Sustainability & Responsibility

SUSTAINABILITY & RESPONSIBILITY.

All our products are made from recycled "post consumer PET bottles" and are therefore more sustainable materials. We believe that making new from old is better!

PET bottles cannot be naturally degraded. In Switzerland, 100% of these are processed into new PET bottles. In the Far East, the bottles are processed into yarn, among other things, in the recycling process. This gives PET bottles a second life. That's why we decided to do the production there to extend the life cycle of the raw materials.

  • WILI WILI TREE® products are made from 100% post-consumer recycled PET fabric. This means that these are actually collected PET bottles, which are processed into flakes and then into yarn and then into fabric.

  • DOPE DYED - The yarn is already dyed before weaving - the dope dyeing process uses 86% less CO2, 98% less water and 83% less energy than conventional dyeing processes do (more on this below in the article).

  • Tough, durable and waterproof. Due to the internal coating, our products feel like RAW denim on the outside, are of high quality and easy to wash off.

  • Recycling Standard: Manufactured to BSCI & GRS (Global Recycling) standards.

  • Our fabric manufacturer is also certified with ISO 9001 for quality, ISO 45001 for occupational safety, ISO 14001 for environmental management.

Background information on recycled PET and the production for the fabric we use.

Global PET fiber production increased from 32.54 million tons to about 70 million tons, and PET bottle flake production capacity increased from 17.859 million tons to 33.229 million tons. On the one hand, the main raw material of PET is still petroleum. It takes 8-12 tons of petroleum to produce 1 ton of PET, which means that a large amount of petroleum is used in PET products every year and causes shortage of petroleum resources.

On the other hand, these petrochemical products are poorly biodegradable. In the natural environment, they take up to 500 years to decompose, leading to a rapid increase in solid polyester waste and environmental degradation.

Therefore, there is an urgent need to recover PET waste products. The technology that produces recycled PET fibers from PET waste products through physical or chemical processes is relatively mature. It reduces the consumption of petroleum in the manufacture of PET products as well as the environmental impact of PET waste products. The development of the recycled polyester industry is of great importance to optimize the structure of global energy consumption and protect the environment

Polyester has a compact and highly hydrophobic molecular structure, which does not contain -SO3-, -COO- and other hydrophilic groups in the molecule, which poses great difficulties for hydrophilic dyes in the conventional way at room temperature. Therefore, polyester needs to be dyed at high temperature and high pressure. The traditional dyeing technology has high energy consumption, high cost, high water consumption and high environmental pollution, with very limited economic and social benefits.

On the contrary, the solution-dyed technology for polyester does not emit any waste water. It's a typically clean way to solve pollution problems at the source. The recycled polyester and dop-dyeing technology possess both eco-friendly and low-carbon properties.

We use this technology for our products and save a lot of energy and water.

Our products are currently produced in Hong Kong / China. We know our fabric manufacturer and the producer of the bags personally and we work together on an equal footing.

However, we are also striving to ensure that our products can be produced closer together in the future and are actively looking for suppliers and producers in Europe. More on that will follow in the near future.
